We all try to avoid hitting rock bottom, perhaps through some belief that it will affect our life and stop us from being who we want to be. But that’s just it! It ENABLES you to be who you want to be!
What’s holding you back from living a deeply fulfilled life from the inside out? Not just what is portrayed on facebook, or through your job title, income or material possessions.
Do you want to feel the safety, trust and deep connection that true love brings?
How about letting go of those fears & doubts to enable you to soar through life?
And do you want to cultivate a sense of belonging, higher purpose and heart to heart connection?
So you’re in the right place! I truly believe that how far you’ve come on your own journey will reflect how much you really LIVE.
I once spoke with a lady who said she couldn’t understand why some of the big Hollywood stars have autobiographies and what possible suffering could they have gone through in their life. In all her naivity she had no idea it was exactly these big stars’ suffering, in them hitting rock bottom, that caused them to rise into their own power and create the life they have. The road to whatever you define success to be is not all plain sailing. Along the way you will have to encounter life’s storms and turbulent waters but resisting those currents is what keeps you resisting what life really has to offer.
The very wise and wonderful Oprah in her book ‘What I Know For Sure’ says this,
“Every challenge we take on has the power to knock us to our knees. But what’s even more disconcerting than the jolt itself is our fear that we won’t withstand it. When we feel the ground beneath us shifting, we panic.
The only way to endure the quake is to adjust your stance. You can’t avoid the daily tremors, they come with being alive. These experiences are gifts that force us to step to the left or right in search of a new centre of gravity. Don’t fight them, let them help you adjust your footing.
Balance lives in the present. When you feel the earth moving, bring yourself back to the now… In this moment you’re finding a way to step onto higher ground.”
It’s About Balance
Until that earth shakes beneath you, until you’ve been crawling on the floor in search of the strength to pick yourself back up again, you never truly appreciate what it is like to stand with two feet firmly on the ground. The universe demands balance. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. What goes up, must come down. The pendulum that swings left must swing back right.
What ways in your life are these swings of rhythm evident? Without pleasure, would we know of pain? Without fear, would we know of courage? The ancients say,
“The man who enjoys well can also be subject to great suffering. The man who feels little pain is capable of feeling but little joy.”
How many times have you taken life for granted? We forget to notice how lucky we are to live in the western world, born with endless opportunities around us. We can allow ourselves to get caught up in the dramas, problems and heartbreak. I believe the path to our personal power is seeing each of those as a lesson and a way for us to grow into the person we were always meant to be.
Resistance to what could enter your life is camouflaged by the barriers we lay on our own path. We avoid enduring any pain, feeling any type of emotion, protecting ourselves from failure but these types of resistance only endures your ordinary existence. I mean no disrespect when I say ordinary. But we are not meant to be ordinary!
Hitting Rock Bottom
I went through most of my life this way, just living, just plain sailing. On the outside I had a nice life and never really having to deal with anything too painful or heartbreaking. As a result of not encountering any pain, I didn’t really feel joy. My unconscious mind believing this was just the way it was keep me in an ‘ordinary’ life. As soon as I hit rock bottom, my whole world came crashing down. (For those of you who don’t know my story, you can read more about it here.) And by rock bottom I mean, it literally feels like your whole reality has come crashing down on you and you feel stuck, overwhelmed and the worst you’ve probably ever felt.
In being in that place, I didn’t really have anywhere else to go. I had a choice. I could stay living in rock bottom and accept this as my realtiy. Or I could create a new one. It’s safe to say that since my rock bottom moment, I have lived more fully and loved more openly in those 4 years then I did the previous 28 combined! I took myself off on a journey to find the truth of my own existence. I needed clarity and that’s what I’ll help you with here. Grab a journal or pen & paper to write down these answers, so they are out of your head & clear to see on paper!
What traumatic events have you endured in your life?
How did they shape you into who you are today?
And where would you be without that pain & suffering? How would your life be different?
If you haven’t had any significant events to shift you, perhaps it is time to look at why. Are you holding on to control so that your life doesn’t spiral down to pain, struggle and rock bottom?
Often it’s a case of learning to let go. You can discover 10 things to let go of to feel happier here.
Where are you stuck in your ways? What do you need to control?
In what situations can you learn to open your heart more? How do you protect yourself from getting hurt?
What have you said ‘no’ to through fear of rejection / failure etc?
Where can you show the world more of who you really are?
What is your soul calling you to do? (All you need to do is ask yourself this and wait silently for the answer to surface!)
Appreciate that floor you’ve peeled yourself up from, and the events leading up to falling on it. It’s made you who you are today!
Peace & love
